Frequently asked Questions & Answers

  • Upon receiving your special flowers, I’ll rehydrate them and deconstruct the bouquet to press each flower or its petals individually. It’s a long process but really worth it! Your flowers will remain in the presses for several weeks. When they are ready, I will create a mock up of your floral frame and email it to you. Then I will glue the flowers, take them to be professionally framed and post them back to you. Floral preservation is a slow process and it can take about 4-6 months from start to finish, but it is truly worth the wait!

  • My style is contemporary, light and airy, to bring attention to the individual blooms and foliage. I press whole flowers and flower petals, using traditional and modern pressing methods.

  • Pressed flowers, if cared for properly, will last for many many years. As an organic medium, they will change & fade eventually over time, giving them that beautiful vintage look. There’s no natural way of preserving their colours long term - just like in nature - which is part of their fleeting beauty. To preserve the colour of your pressed blooms for as long as possible, please keep your frame away from direct sunlight, UV rays, heat, humidity, moisture and dampness (steam, damp air, damp walls, leaks, building work, bathroom, kitchen, cold rooms and walls, etc.).

  • Bouquets that look best in a frame have a selection of small to medium flowers, with different colours / tones, filler flowers, wildflowers and lush green foliage. The more the merrier!

Flowers that press well and look beautiful when framed are: hydrangeas, larkspur, anemones, delphiniums, baby’s breath, cosmos, astrantias, astilbe, sweet peas, thistle, Queen Anne’s lace, poppies, clematis, lavender, hellebores, dark lisianthus, carnations, Veronicas and various green foliage, such as eucalyptus, dusty miller and more. Roses and peonies are pressed petal by petal and reconstructed after pressing.

Please contact me to discuss your special flowers before you make a booking, to ensure they’ll be suitable for pressing and framing.

  • As much as I would love to press all flowers, unfortunately not all flowers press well. Flowers that are particularly bulky and big wouldn’t fit in the frames and wouldn’t look good as part of the floral composition. Where possible, I might be able to press the petals of large blooms individually and include them in your floral frame.

Flowers that definitely do not press well or fit in the frames are: lilies, wax flowers, sunflowers, dahlias, irises, chrysanthemums, proteas, anthurium, orchids and tropical flowers, white & pale lisianthus, spring bulb flowers (such as tulips, hyacinths etc.), berries, holly, spray roses, snapdragons, stocks, freesias, ornamental cabbages, amaryllis and succulents.

Please contact me to discuss your special flowers before you make a booking, to ensure they’ll be suitable for pressing and framing.

  • After pressing, flowers tend to change their colours and there’s no way of telling what colours I’ll find in the press prior to opening. They like to keep me guessing! The fresher the flower, the higher chance of colour retention and pressing well.

White flowers tend to turn vintage shades of cream, yellow, beige or tan / brown.

Pale pinks might lighten or turn yellow or beige / tan, whereas darker pinks might turn even darker or change to purple.

Red flowers might turn dark maroon colour.

Yellow flowers tend to keep their colour well, although they might change to orange. Pale yellow might turn beige / tan.

Blue flowers might deepen their colour but tend to hold the colour quite well.

Green foliage tends to keep the colour well, sometimes darkening or turning green-brown.

  • As soon as possible, within 2-4 days of the event at the absolute latest, to avoid wilting and loosing their shape. For flowers arriving in the post, I recommend sending them no later than 3 days after your event at the very latest.

  • To keep your flowers in best condition for pressing, they need to be kept in fresh water, in a dark cool room and out of direct sun, before being dropped off to me (my studio is in the village of Monks Risborough, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire).

You can also post your flowers if you’re not able to have them dropped off at my studio. Please contact me to discuss it further.

  • Flower pressing is a slow & long process and takes several weeks. Your frame will usually be ready for posting / collecting in 4-6 months time, although it might be longer during times busy with weddings, such as late spring, summer and early autumn.

  • To preserve the colour of your pressed blooms for as long as possible, please keep your frame away from direct sunlight, UV rays, heat, humidity, moisture and dampness (steam, damp air, damp walls, leaks, building work, bathroom, kitchen, cold rooms and walls etc.).

  • The sooner the better! I’m only able to take on a small amount of commissions per month, as flower pressing is a long process. Spring and summer months can get especially busy, with a lot of wedding ceremonies taking place. Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

  • You can absolutely post your flowers, please contact me to discuss it further and I’ll send you an easy step by step guide on how to do it.

  • Absolutely! I will happily press any flowers that are special to you: birthday flowers, anniversary flowers or flowers from your garden. Please contact me to discuss it further.

  • Your design will depend on the selection of flowers in your bouquet and what flowers press best. When your flowers are pressed, I’ll choose the best blooms and create your mock-up design. I don’t offer multiple mock-up designs, as each mock-up - even though it’s my favourite part of the process - is time consuming to create. By choosing to have your flowers preserved by me you will trust my creative vision for your blooms. Each floral frame is different, in the same way that each wedding bouquet is different, therefore I can’t guarantee a certain look. Once your mock-up design is ready, you’ll receive a photo of it before I start gluing your flowers.

  • Due to the unique nature of the floral frames, I’m not able to accept refunds of the bespoke items, as they can’t be sold on.
